You've got questions. We've got answers! Check out some of our most frequently asked questions below and feel free to email us with any questions or topics that aren't covered below. We are always happy to hear from you!
Q: Why handcrafted soap?
A: Commercially produced soaps are often comprised of mostly detergents and use cheap ingredients. Handcrafted soap is generally made with high quality oils and butters like olive oil and shea butter. Unlike commercially produced soaps, handcrafted soaps retain their glycerin.
Q: Ok, what the heck is glycerin?
A: Glycerin is a natural byproduct of the soap making process. Glycerin is humectant, meaning that it actually attracts moisture to itself. So as you wash your skin with handcrafted soap, you are also applying a thin layer of glycerin that helps to moisturize your skin. In commercially produced soaps, this is often removed, but in handcrafted soap the glycerin remains!
Q: The soap in our shower is getting soft and squishy. What's up with that?
A: Handcrafted soap loves to soak up water. If you are finding that your soap is becoming soft, find a different storage solution that allows the bar to dry thoroughly between uses. A simple wire soap dish or wooden soap dish with plenty of drainage holes will help your soap dry out and help your bar last a whole lot longer. Another great tip is to keep two bars of soap on hand in your shower. That way you can switch between them allowing more time for each bar to dry.
Q: I placed an order online. When can I expect delivery?
A: Delivery times vary depending on the shipping method you select at checkout. Typically online orders are processed the following business day and ship out the next available shipping day depending on the carrier. By default Newport's Naturals ships all orders through USPS. If you enter your email at checkout you can receive shipping updates to track your package.
Q: I see references to the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetics Guild on your website and social media. What is the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetic Guild?
A: I've been a member of the Handcrafted Soap & Cosmetics Guild since January of 2015. The HSCG is a non-profit trade association dedicated to educating the public about the handcrafted soap and cosmetics industry, providing a center of communication and education for handcrafted soap and cosmetics makers, as well as providing legislative advocacy for our trade. You can find out more by visiting www.soapguild.org.
Q: What is that shrink wrap made of?
A: We use a product called Biolefin TM. Biolefin TM is a 100% biodegradable (Oxo-biodegradable) plastic shrink wrap that quickly bio-degrades into food for bacteria and other micro-organism’s after entering the environment. It does not degrade into micro plastics! It actually breaks down in a span of about three years compared to the hundreds of years it can take for plastics to break down.
